Take babies out where they can hear sounds eg. the garden, park where they can hear birds, the rustle of leaves. . .
Playing at sounds becomes a game of remembering.
Listening is an important skill.
Does she notice a sound?
If so, repeat it.
Does she drop a toy and make a noise to get it? Show you have heard and pick up the toy. However, if she becomes 'power mad' say "no". This is all communication.
I hear peeping, chirping, cheeping
When I'm outdoors alone
The sounds are so much nicer
Than our family telephone
Bath time is great for learning:
a light sponge is heavy when wet
you can't sink a plastic duck
empty boxes float fill with water and it sinks
soap is slippery when wet
You are probably teaching this without knowing, but it is good to know and nicer to be better.
Tell your baby what to expect after you put her bed clothes on.
Have playtime after her juice.
If you notice your baby has listened to a sound:
eg. aeroplane encourage her to listen
that's an aeroplane coming
now it's over
it's going away
it's gone
Talk about what you are doing
now
later
tomorrow
it's still "cooing" and soothing
